I love you, Te amo, Je t'aime, Sayapo, Nakupenda, Mahal Kita, Amote....

In this world we know all to well what love is NOT. Love is NOT jealous, it does NOT seek it's own, it is NOT proud, it is NOT rude, etc etc. Too often have I seen relationships end because of these things. For example John and Jane (obviously these are made up names) let's say they have been dating for a year and they believe themselves to be in love. Until one day, John cheats on her and even though he confesses this to Jane, she becomes too upset and jealous beyond forgiveness. Their love ends almost as quickly as it began (a very typical example but who doesn't know someone or has heard of someone ending a relationship under these circumstances?)

My question is; were the 2 people in this relationship ever "in love" at all? If self-seeking, jealousy and pride and all these other things clearly describe what is NOT existent in love, then the very presence of these attributes would seemingly compromise what this relationship called "love" in the first place. John sought his own lustful desires, and Jane's jealousy and pride would not allow her to forgive him. No doubt the week before this all happened they were cuddling in each others arms basking in the glorious "feelings" of being in love.

However, when their love is tested, where did these feelings run off to? How could they have abandonded John and Jane when they most needed to pull upon them and remember how great it felt to be "in love" with each other.

This brings my mind to wonder if FEELINGS have anything to do with LOVE. Perhaps they do according to the twisted version society has made of love today.

Why else do you think "true love" can only happen in the movies?
Now, I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ, and the truth of the Word of God. According to the Word the definition of love is God.
God is Love.
He is the definition of true love, and the Word says no greater love has any man than this, than to lay down his life for his friend. Now please tell me what "feelings" are involved in that kind of love besides the feelings of pain?
I could give many other examples that the Word of God talks about what love is, but knowing and believing all of those things I have come to one decision.
LOVE IS A CHOICE for humans.
We are NOT God and therefore can not encompass love the way He does, but we are made in His image and therefore have the capacity to love another that way God desires us to but rarely do we sacrifice ourselves to show the real and only kind of love there is.
Any thoughts on that?
